Gallileo Satellites Launch with Hi-Shear Separation Nuts

On October 21, 2011, two Gallileo Satellites containing Hi-Shear separation nuts launched from French Guiana, South America. Hi-Shear’s separation nuts enable the opening of doors, deployment of solar panels, and communications antennae. This twin launch is the first of fourteen Gallileo satellites planned for deployment over the next decade. The Gallileo Satellite will provide GPS service to European civilians.
